Many graphic artists consider themselves Web Designers*, so much so that real Web Designers hesitate to use those words to describe their job. A real Web Designer isn’t just a Photoshop wiz, but someone who: understands the structure of markup, believes in (and adheres to) standards, and understands the difference between art and design (web designers aren’t creating art, but designing an interface). This means that a real Web Designer writes their web sites by hand. This isn’t because they are a glutton for punishment, but because writing good code is the core of what a Web Designer does. These are the people that are on front lines defining what the web is, not just doing something “cool”.
I am a Web Designer.
Yes, I know my way around Photoshop and Illustrator. I write all my code by hand (using BBEdit). I use PHP, SQL and JavaScript to complete a web site. I’ll even dive into Flash if I need to (although I am in the camp of less-is-more). I am always learning, and willing to share what I know with others.
I’m a better Web Designer today than I was yesterday.

I have a “normal” resume available as a PDF file. If you have a full-time position that perhaps I could fill, please contact me. I’m always willing to consider a job at a company where I can lead a team of developers and designers to create attractive, usable web sites and can be a champion for web standards.
*I used to refer to myself as a Web Developer because it sounds like I am more literate when it comes to coding. A Web Developer is someone at the other end of the spectrum, a developer is about logic and building a structure of computer code and not about the interface between man and machine. I can write code, but I am not a Web Developer.
